Cruising past the qualifying rounds for the World Cup, the U.S. made a place for itself in the final Hexagonal round to be played this year and that too with enough margins to be able to spare 2 games. This gave the Americans the chance to test their rookies and find real talent amongst them during the last 2 qualifying matches so they would have some wild cards to play if the need arose. Americans had an enjoyable time with all players in top gear for the coming World Cup.
Things couldn’t have been more different for the Mexicans. Mexico lost its’ last World Cup qualifier to Honduras. It seemed like the team was bereft of all its former glory and appeared to be a mere shadow of itself. The sixth and last qualifier at Estadio Olimpico held in San Pedro Sula was evidence of this. They just barely crawled into the Hexagonal on goal difference.
Fans following the latest scores could not believe that the 2 arch rivals should have manifested such different forms. Their performance in 2009 will most likely be poles apart from one another. However, Mexico is slowly and gradually untangling itself from its’ poor performance whereas America is still going strong not unlike the past 2 years since Bob Bradley started coaching them.
One of the most anticipated World Cup qualifiers will take place between these two nations on 11th February in Columbus, Ohio. It seems like things are looking up for the Americans and they may have a good time of it. Mexico, on the other hand, found itself at the bottom of the points card of the 6 Hexagonal participants. They trudged through the semi finals making it into the next phase only by a goal differential. El Tri finished in the 6th place out of the 6 teams.
The Mexicans have gone from bad to worse as they find themselves in poor form. One would think that participation in the league matches my have boosted up their spirits and performance but this was not to be. But unfortunately, the leagues proved just the opposite as star players for Mexico had to miss out on the qualifiers due to injuries. Andres Guardado sustained a calf injury; Rafael Marquez strained a muscle during the Spanish league matches. Similarly, Jonny Magallon couldn’t play due to a broken arm and Aaron Galindo had injured his knee and as a result could not make them available for the matches.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, Mexico will not be able to play 3 other top players having been suspended after receiving cards in the semi final matches. One more hindrance in the way of Mexico’s win is the rearing of the foreigner scandal. As any ardent soccer fan would be aware of this there is no need for me to go into the details. It is enough to say that the criticism is very harsh and has led to dampening the spirits of Mexican players.
I strongly recommend you to stay connected with ScoresPro.com for soccer livescores.
Columbus Crew Forward and MLS MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto shows us a goal celebration called: Toot the Boot. Coach USA Rodriguez fine-tunes the celebration to make sure the kids put on a show at the Volkswagen Junior Masters Soccer Tournament in South Africa.

jajaj el guille debe estar levantando los dolares con una pala!!
He’s also praised the schools that his children go to..
I also understand that he has an eye towards a coaching position when he retires.. Hopefully it will be at the Crew.
I would train as usual because the more worked up you get the worse you play. Don't put it in full mode practicing. Just practice about half an hour more than you usually do. No need to get all worked up about it.
Carbohydrates definitely, but make sure they're eaten an hour prior to the game, anything closer to kick-off may repeat on them and/or slow them down. Muffins would be a great idea, banana muffins will be superb as bananas are meant to be terrific for all sports performers. Also anything with sugar would also help, but in portions obviously.
Basically nothing to heavy as they are running around such as havey meats. Fruits and Veges, Carbos and Sugars are perfect. After the game, I think a couple cold ones will do
I can’t speak for Lopez or KC but guille never lived in Buenos Aries when he played for Boca he always lived in La Plata.
I think it may have more to do with nice people and not getting hounded by the press everywhere he goes
I’ve been to Columbus It’s nice, but it’s no B.A., which is why I’m shocked he loves it so much.
Anyway, Lopez loves it in KC too. I guess, Something about the Midwest really appeals to Argentines. Maybe it’s all the corn, soybean and cows surrounding the suburbs. Haha.
We love having Guillermo play for our beloved Crew. As for him staying in Ohio, well, you can’t put a price tag on anonymity.
dude, why do people keep asking these questions. you act like there are no futebol fanatics in the US. its getting bigger and bigger (no homo). its really popular there. humans watch it, just like you do…
Guillermo Barros likes Ohio because it’s a place where he can get away from what he would be experiencing in Buenos Aires. So many people know him there that it’s impossible to walk in the streets. In Ohio, his kids can go outside and ride their bike. That’s what he said at least.
YAY! MY COUSIN IS THE GOALIE! Way to go little guy! We love you!

You really should bring some kind of sandal/slider footwear. If you have to play several games in one day it is very important to let you feet dry (and your socks) before you have to put them on and play again. Bring extra uniform socks if you have them so you can put dry ones back on before the next game.
Sunblock probably, but be careful about the kind you get so it doesn't run in your eyes.
Snacks (healthy ones) and water.
Have fun and good luck!
no tactics, just play
Good luck, they're probably isn't one…
draw a soccor field with the balll and some players
In high school soccer there is no distinction between regular season games and tournaments. The red card will carry over to your next game regardless of if it's a tournament game or not. Cards only count on the same playing level. So if you got a card in a JV game, you would still be able to play in a varsity game.
I would check with either your coach or athletic director. Although refs are supposed to report ALL cards, sometimes cards in tournaments aren't reported. If it wasn't reported, don't worry about.
jajaja que bizarro esto!! ENORME Guille!! Gracias por las alegrias en Boca!!
It's going to take more than four days to build up your stamina. When you're playing in the tournament don't over do it. Don't try playing the entire match.
