(College Football) 2001 - TCU @ Nebraska

Glasgow has developed over many years, an almost limitless obsession with Football, and although it is not loved by everyone it certainly has like anywhere else in the world, a devoted following through differing generations. Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic are, for anyone who might not know, the two main teams in Glasgow and each team respectively have an independent and loyal following from their many fans across the city.

It has been well documented of course that both teams fans are not the best of friends to put it very mildly and there have been violent clashes over the years between the two, but the acceptance of Rangers and Celtic fans of each other in recent years has and continues to increase as time passes and a mutual respect has developed to bring a new air of calm to the cities footballing masses.

An interesting fact of Scottish football is that the first international fixture played between the Scottish and English national teams in Glasgow in 1872 is the oldest fixture in the world and the football rivalry between the two survived until the late seventies but has subsequently dwindled since then although there seems to remain a certain division from North to South.

Scotland’s National stadium, Hampden Park, In the Southside of Glasgow, now world famous was built way back in 1903 and owned the crown of the largest football stadium in the world until 1950 when the Maracana Stadium was built in Rio. In recent years Hampden Park was in desperate need of improvement and after many high profile football tragedies including the horrific Hillsborough disaster on April 15th 1989 the stadium was closed and subsequently overhauled and refurbished completely so that it was fully seated and finally reopened its doors in May 1999.

Hampden Park also houses the Scottish Football Museum, a must see for all the family and a great day out, The museum also houses on display, amongst many other football artefacts, the worlds oldest football ticket from the previously mentioned Scotland and England game, The Scotland hall of fame, and the oldest national trophy dating back to 1873. The stadium is widely used for a variety of other uses including concerts of which there have been many over the years, but the highlight of the stadium is when the football crowds descend upon it for big matches and the intensity of the atmosphere has to be experienced to be fully understood, Hence the description ” The Hampden Roar” that became a popular phrase among Scottish people.

Scottish football may not be a dominating force in regards to world football, but the heart and character of the support it enjoys is truly world class and this is reflected in the warm welcome the fans receive around the world, wherever they travel. And if you come and watch a football game in Glasgow you will receive a very special welcome from the “City of Smiles.” And that welcome alone makes the sport in Glasgow very special.

For those of us who can actually really remember that season and his whole career, Charles Woodson was one of the most dominant defensive players i have ever seen. He took half the field away. And most of his big plays came in the biggest games. I’m a Steeler fan but Charles Woodson is in my top 10 favorite athletes

Damn, I had no idea Charles Woodson was this fucking raw in college. Man, going both ways like that and dominating. It seemed liked he had a gamebreaker play in every game. At the same time this video is sick because it reminds me of the 90’s.

I like Charles but no way he should have been the Defensive Player of the Year. Darrelle Revis is the best cona in the History of the NFL. No cona eva in they career shutdown receivers like he has in his 3 year career. It’s all good tho cuz Revis is going for that ring. GO J.E.T.S !!!

  8. i have watched every game that michigan has played since 1993 give or take a few and the last few years have been pretty rough but in 1997 that was some of the best football i’ve seen a TEAM play ever. and to anyone who isn’t educated on charles woodson, he was voted to the all-time team for college football so recognize.
