England Sevens dreams of repeating their 2009 success and winning their home round of the IRB World Series Sevens at Twickenham were blown away on Sunday when they lost narrowly, 17-12, to South Africa in their Cup quarter final match.

Unfortunately, worse was to follow for the squad when they went down 22-19 in the Plate semi-final to wrap up there weekends work earlier than planned.

As England Sevens skipper Ben Gollings admitted: “We never got out of the blocks against South Africa which was disappointing as it was a game that was very winnable for us.

“The New Zealand game was a chance to put things right but you can’t fault the effort from the boys to pick themselves up and we were, maybe, a couple of inches away from winning that game.

Despite fluffing the kick-off England started brightly enough against South Africa before losing their skipper to a sin-binning for a dubious deliberate knock-on and South Africa immediately took full advantage to work the overlap and send M J Metz racing over for Mzwandlle Stick to convert comfortably.

Worse followed for England as a mistake at the base of a scrum let South Africa in for a second try almost immediately when Ryno Benjamin roared over and, bang on half-time, Cecil Afrika sped over for number three and take a 17-0 lead into the second-half.

However, a well worked try for Tom Varndell, blasting his way up the right wing, opened England’s account after the break with Gollings converting to pass a personal milestone of 300 points for the season.

And with South Africa down to five men following two yellow cards England finally broke down the South African defence wide out on the left for Tom Powell to touch down.

Coach Ben Ryan admitted afterwards: “It was disappointing, I thought the first two games yesterday were excellent and that despite the defeat by Australia we would bounce back well.

“You can’t fault their intensity out there against South Africa but, as the scoreline shows we’re in the Plate and not the Cup.”

Tips On Buying The Soccer Team Trophies

If you are buying the trophies for your soccer team you have an endless number of choices. Here are some guidelines that will make the job a little easier and help you cross it off your to do list quicker.

There is a wide verity of soccer trophies available. Everything from the classic resin and plastic trophies to the action packed bobble head and spinners. Spinners are trophies that have the soccer ball spin around.

If you are buying for a younger team they like the bobble head and spinner trophies.

Bobble head trophies come in a number of different styles for soccer.

If you are buying for a little older group that takes the game a little more serious they usually like a little more serious trophy. There are a number of trophies that feature a figure kicking, or dribbling the ball. They come in both male and female styles. Plaques also make nice awards and some will have a place to insert the team picture for a nice keep sake.

The trophy should be engraved using the latest computer driven laser engraving technology. Some engravers will sublimate the text which is like printing on medal and works fine.

The text to be engraved on the trophy should be the players name on the top line. The team name on the second line. You can put the date or season on the third line. Some like to put the sponsor or league on a fourth line but that is difficult to fit on the small medal plate and will usually require an additional engraving charge.

You can purchase the trophies at a store or online. The trophy stores online deal in large volume and can sometimes be less expensive. You can also save the tax when you order online. If you get a couple of teams to order at the same time you will save money on the shipping charge. If you do order them online just make sure you order early enough to allow time for production and shipping. Most online stores need a week to ten days to deliver the trophies.

Weather you order at a store or online when you order have a list of the players names spelled correctly and any other text you want. When ordering online you will put the names in when checking out, or you can e-mail it. If you are engraving any kind of art or logo you will need to send that as a jpg file. Make sure you enter all the text exactly the way you want it on the trophies.

Send off the order and you are ready to cross another thing off your to do list. With that taken care of you can get to work on the end of year party. Good luck and have a great season.

Mexico hasn’t been very successful at national team level, since they only managed to reach the World Cup quarter finals on two occasions (both in World Cups held in Mexico). However, soccer teams in Mexico gradually became more powerful and today they are considered a force to be reckoned with in American soil as well as on an international club level.

I was planning to make a top 5 of the Mexico soccer teams, but I decided against ranking them, because that might stir some trouble with the fans, such as a fan asking why is team over team in the ranking, since won more championships and so forth. Here are what I believe to be the most important soccer teams in Mexico, ranked by alphabet only .

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Club America

Club America was founded in 1916, being one of the oldest professional clubs in Mexico, although the first league title was not to be won until 1956-1966. They’re currently the owners of 10 national championships, being only second to Chivas de Guadalajara, who have won 11 titles in their history. The two are the most successful soccer teams in Mexico from a silverware point of view and Chivas is the historical nemesis of America, so a match between the two is a derby that the entire country awaits.

Club America gets credit for discovering or highlighting players such as Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Enrique Borja, Carlos Hermosillo, Pavel Pardo, Zizinho, Claudio Lopez, Ivan Zamorano or Ilie Dumitrescu.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Chivas de Guadalajara

The club’s official name is Club Deportivo Guadalajara, but every soccer fan in Mexico knows them as Chivas (the goats). Their tally of 11 league titles makes Chivas the most successful of all soccer teams in Mexico, trailing arch-nemesis America by one title. They’re also very loved for their Mexican-only policy, in that they never use foreigners and focus only on local Mexican players.

Their popularity reaches far beyond the borders of Mexico and into the United States, where a team called Chivas USA was formed. The Mexican Chivas have credit for launching players such as Salvador Reyes, Omar Bravo, Claudio Suarez, Juan Palencia, Gonzalo Pineda, Luis Garcia or Carlos Hermosillo.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Pachuca

Despite being the oldest club in Mexican soccer history, being founded in 1901, Pachuca has only become truly competitive in the past few decades. Winning the Primera Division 5 times in the last 8 years and the CONCACAF Champions Cup twice, in 2002 and 2007, Pachuca rose to become a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico.

The most notable players that got to play for Pachuca include: Jared Borgetti, Jaime Correa, Fausto Pinto, Damian Alvarez, Mosquera, Ivan Hurtado and Juan Arango.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Pumas

Because of the team’s close relation to UNAM, the largest university in Mexico, the club became known as UNAM Pumas, although their official name is Club Universidad Nacional A.C. Although the Pumas don’t have the same history as some of the other top soccer clubs in Mexico, having been founded in 1954, they definitely made their years of existence count, winning 5 league champs, 3 CONCACAF Cups, 1 Interamerican Cup as well as several smaller silverware.

Amongst the players that wore the Pumas logo on their shirt in the club’s fifty-year existence, the most important are: Enrique Borja, Hugo Sanchez, Jorge Campos, Alberto Aspe, Luis Garcia, Esteban Solari, Emerson, Ailton da Silva or Dario Veron.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Toluca

Toluca was a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico ever since the 1960s, having won 8 championship titles since then. Ever since Toluca’s founding in 1917, they have been known as an offensive team who throws their dice on the attackers, somewhat neglecting the defensive part of the game. This philosophy was a double edged sword, as Toluca varied between relegation places and titles in the 60s and 70s.

Obviously, today this attacking mentality is a lot less noticeable and Toluca’s game has become more tactical. Some of the notable players that wore Toluca’s red and white shirt include: Enrique Alfaro, Zinha, Pedro Romero, Enzo Trossero, Dario Rodriguez, Jose Cardozo, Fabian Estay, Darko Vukic and Juan Antonio Pizzi.

In 1930, the US national soccer team got off to a roaring international career at the inaugural World Cup. In a tournament mostly dominated by South American teams, the United States reached the semi-finals. However, since then, the USA’s record has been rather poor. And that is being generous. Apart from 2002, where they reached the quarterfinals, the men’s national team has faired very badly in international tournaments. The latest incident being the 2007 Copa America where the US was utterly and completely lambasted by its South American competition. You have to ask yourself, why? The United States is one of the largest countries in the world with, arguably, the most physically gifted athletes. Furthermore, with an incredibly powerful economy, Americans have almost unlimited resources for training and equipment.

So, why can the USA never seem to reach the highest eschelon of international soccer? The reason is actually very simple. We simply do not have the skill that the rest of the world enjoys. US ball movement is less crisp, slower and not nearly as accurate as some of the better teams in the world. Also, the US has become incredibly predictable in terms of how it attacks. If it ever wants to become an actual offensive threat, ingenuity and creativity will somehow have to be embedded into its game. Plus, defending has become more of an option than a mandatory part of the game. The list of the national team’s inadequacies goes on and on, from sub-par distribution from the back to inefficiency in front of the goal. Simply put, when the US participates in international tournaments, it is overmatched.

Now that the US finds itself in a hole, how can it dig itself out? The answer, like the problem, is a simple one. US players must leave the country and join the more prestigious leauges around the world, even if that means leaving America prematurely and training with secondary teams for awhile. If you look at the rosters of international soccer powerhouses, you will notice a common trend – their players have a wealth of experience in the tops leagues around the world playing against the best opposition around. To elevate your game, you must play against worthy opponents who will push you to the limits. Take Brazil for instance. Every single one of their starting players has left the Brazilian league to compete in top European leagues. On the other hand, at least half of the US starting lineup plays in the MLS, a less talented league. And those who actually do play internationally have only been doing so for a short time. How can the US team even pretend to think they have a fighting chance on the international stage? Without more experience, the US is just going to get more of the same – disappointing results.

On a brighter note, in recent times more and more US players have signed with teams overseas. With players like Benny Feilhaber and Clint Dempsey becoming more techinical, talented players, there is a shred of hope for the US national soccer team. Hopefully, they will be a shining example of how to approach one’s career and will be followed by other talented youngsters. Otherwise, the US team will never be able to compete with the Brazils and Frances of the world.

Some say that taking all of the talented, young players out of the MLS and sending them overseas is not a good idea as it prevents future growth in America. I agree that doing so will prevent growth. But my point is that if the MLS retains the young talent coming out of America, the national team will continually perform at a sub-par level. The nations that have sent their stars away from home have, in fact, suffered domestically. But they are now forces to be reckoned with. Just look at Argentina, Portugal, Holland, the Czech Republic, etc…

The choice is simple. Does America want to bolster their domestic league which may never really be supported anyways due to the popularity of other American sports, or does it want success on the international level? This is one soccer fan who would prefer to see the US finally reach its potential and make a name for itself in the upcoming world tournaments.

College soccer, like soccer in general, is a sport played between two teams consisting of eleven players, and is thought by many to be the most popular sport in the world. It is played on a rectangular field of grass or turf, with a goal set up at the opposite ends. The object of the game is to bring the ball into the opposing goal. Generally, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands or arms to catch the ball, while the rest of the team usually make use their feet to kick the ball in play, or else use their torso or head to propel a ball in midair. The team that manages to score the most goals by the end of the allotted time wins. For students eager to play college soccer and continue their education, the chance of playing in college soccer teams is an opportunity not to be missed.

Specific rules are set in order to regulate the play of the game. A penalty kick is rewarded when a contact foul or hand ball is made. The ball is placed on the penalty spot and all players must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is kicked. The goalkeeper should have both feet placed on the goal line until the ball is kicked. Afterward, if the ball rebounds off of the goal or the keeper and remains on the field, the ball is considered “live” and anyone can try to take possession of it.

For severe fouls, a referee will hold up one of two cards, depending on the gravity of the offense. The cards are about the same size as that of a playing card. One is yellow, while the other is red. When a card is held up in plain sight, the referee stops the game, calls the player over and writes the player’s name in his notebook, a process known as booking. A Yellow or Red Card merits a kick for the opposite team.

A yellow card indicates a formal warning for any of the following: unsportsmanlike behavior (includes hard fouls such as holding an opponent, faking an injury, etc); aggressive dissent in words or actions; repeated rule violations; delaying restarts of play, (in the case of defenders) failing to maintain the proper distance from the kicker on a corner kick, free kick or throw-in; entering or re-entering the field without the referee’s knowledge; and deliberately exiting the field without permission. Players who have already received 2 Yellow Cards are given a Red Card & ejected. However, in some leagues players leave after being given one yellow card. A player is given a Red Card for the following: foul play (includes any use of excessive force); violent conduct; deliberately touching the ball with by hand to prevent a goal; fouling an opponent to prevent an otherwise successful goal; as well as offensive, insulting or threatening language or gestures.

Participating in college soccer can be a good occasion for young people to hone their skills, while at the same time getting a scholarship by playing on college soccer teams. Students can get academic help while building possible prospects for a professional career in soccer.

The Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both athletes in high school interested in college sports scholarships and coaches looking for new talent for their respective college soccer teams. There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact. D1Athletes is an online community wherein student athletes and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need concerning college soccer. D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.

If they continue their spirit of playing in the same manner, the stream of winning streak will continue for a long run. They have been through rough times from last few years as it puts coach in trouble but replacement in team has brought a good fortune for American soccer team.

Luck seems to be favoring the Americans in every way. They have no health and injury problems at present and neither are they having troubles with suspension being awarded to their players. The European-based players on either side also seem to be affected by this tight phase the Mexicans are going through. Other top Mexican players have been having problems with time clashes making them unable to play for their clubs.

At the same time, the American players have had no such problems. Carlos Bocanegara, Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey have been having a good time playing for their clubs. Going from bad to worse, the El Tri is further having to live with America’s top player, Landon Donovan, making headlines with his performances and is bagged as a prized possession by one of the most respected soccer clubs in the world, Bayern Munich. The existing gap between the 2 rivals has now started to seem impossible to conquer. Donovan has played magnificently for his club scoring 4 goals in 5 matches which has made him emerge as a force to reckon with. American soccer score has never been so impressive. No such luck for the Mexican players.

However, one thing remains similar between the 2 teams. They each have to play another one of their top rivals, Sweden, before they face each other. This will be the first time in 2009 that soccer schedule will accommodate the trio to face one another. Mexico is scheduled to play Sweden on 28th January in Oakland, California.

The results of the 11th February match between America and Mexico can not be guesses by the outcome of their matches with Sweden. The main players for America will not be available for the match up against the Swedes as they are busy with their clubs. America is going to play some new players and this makes it very hard to guess what the outcome of the match between them and Mexico would be.

On the other hand, Eriksson claims to have some tricks up his sleeve that he would like to surprise the Americans with and won’t reveal in the match against Sweden.

However, despite all the odds being in favor of America, it would be unwise for them to underestimate its rival. Mexico still stands a chance of beating America as it has some great player on its’ side like Oswaldo Sanchez, Cesar Villaluz and Pavel Pardo to name a few.

America seems to be a favorite to win the game as Mexico has disappointed with its last few performances.

Soccer sportswear is functional clothing; it soaks up your sweat, provides full range of motion, and look fashionables too. The history of soccer sportswear over the past century shows the advances made in fabrics and the understanding of biomechanics. These changes also provide a glimpse of changes in fashion as a whole. At beginning of the 19th century society was very conservative; men’s wear included tailored suits with bowties, while women’s dresses were floor-length and incredibly tight at the waist. Such attire was hardly appropriate for sports, but the earliest athletes wore modest styles. Nineteenth century players sported long sleeveless t-shirts, baggy breeches that came below the knee, ankle socks, and low-top, inflexible leather shoes. Get the highest quality garments at Sportsweardesigner.com and if soccer is your game, then get the best soccer sportswear, soccer team uniforms, custom soccer sportswear and uniforms on our site at http://www.sportsweardesigner.com/packagesoccer.php .

Typical sportswear garments include shorts, tracksuits, T-shirts, polo shirts, jerseys, and sweatpants. Sportswear is also often worn as casual clothing and is often quite fashionable. Styles of sportswear differ quite widely based on the specific sport they serve, and Sportsweardesigner.com offers a great collection of pre-made soccer uniforms. Sportsweardesigner.com is a unique site, which allows users to create custom soccer sportswear. Sportsweardesigner.com offers the highest quality materials, and an extremely cost effective pricing structure. Sportsweardesigner.com specializes in soccer uniforms, soccer sportswear, and soccer team uniforms.

The last decade or so has seen another change in soccer sportswear; jerseys tend to hang looser, shorts also hang low. In the next decade, who knows what to expect- as technology changes new looks will now be possible. Even now you have the ability to design your own soccer sportswear uniform. We all have different styles, whether we are dressing to impress or dressing to make a statement, there is always a rhyme or reason behind what clothes we wear.
Soccer sportswear can differ based on the color, fit, comfort level or simply the style and outside appearance of the material .Fashion has became a foundation of opportunity, fame and fortune for many designers, fans and buyers. Dressing by season and whether has become a trademark amongst the most fashion sensitive individuals and will continue to play importance in the fashion world in the future. The owners of Soccer sportsweardesigner.com have a long history of success. In addition to this soccer sportswear company they have brought an Internships website, an SEO Real Estate company, and a business plan software tool to the market.

When leading a soccer team, the organization of the sports team can often be the least fun part. You have to balance your players needs, with your coach’s needs, with your league’s requirements and finally, with the parent’s needs. With such a large cast of characters with sometimes competing interests, organizing this chaos isn’t easy. Here are just a few organizing (non-coaching) tips to help you get organized and to help ensure your soccer team accomplishes its goals.

Steps

1. Get the team roster down. Make sure you get every participant’s key information like their preferred contact method (email, cellphone, etc.). Set up an email list using services like http://www.qlubb.com so that everyone can send an email to the group email address rather than having to list everybody’s email address. Publish the roster on the web so that people can get to know each other, set up carpools, and have their own side conversations etc.
2. Get the 911. Set up the call tree so that you can get in touch with people when it counts. People’s preferred method of communication should be taken into account. Last minute rain outs of games and other postponements require a quick and reliable response so that nobody gets stuck. Maintain this roster online so that everyone has the most up-to-date contact information.
3. Understand your goals. Have that first team meeting where everyone can get acquainted but most importantly get agreement on the goals. Are you out to win the championship or to learn and have fun? Who is the right person to coach the team? Prior to any meeting you should do some informal polling and discussion so that you can go to the team meeting prepared.
4. Ask for volunteers. Don’t get stuck doing everything. People are really willing to help if asked. At every meeting look for a chance to recruit volunteers, especially based on any skills they might have. Some parents may have good soccer skills and can be an assistant coach during practice. Online sign up sheets are very useful so that everybody knows what’s been taken and what’s left to do and they can sign up on their own time.
5. Create the master schedule. Get a master schedule online published as soon as possible. It should include all practices, games and tournaments. Putting it online cuts down on needless email chatter and eliminates miscommunication. Be sure to include location, times and who is responsible for what. Remember to bring snacks for that half-time energy boost. Services like Qlubb (http://www.qlubb.com) has the ability to publish schedules either privately within the group or publicly.
6. Figure out the budget. Most budgets for recreational soccer teams are simple however, the numbers do have to add up at the end of the season. Make sure you account for all costs like league fees, equipment costs, tournament fees, transportation and housing costs. Remember that having a fundraiser costs money too. Look at ways to defray costs through activity fees, bake sales/car washes, sponsorships from local sports stores, subsidies from sports equipment manufacturers, etc.
7. Build on the community. A sports team is comprised of a group of people that form a community around the common interest of sport. However, over time as people get to know each other, bonds strengthen. Fostering the community through things like photo sharing, team picnics, after game dinners are a great way to have fun while also improving trust and teamwork.
8. Do something special. Getting your team excited about the sport can help enrich the experience. If the professionals are having a tournament in town, arrange for a field trip. If you are budget conscious, you can see some great competition at the college level. Most sports have a hall of fame that you could arrange a field trip to. And if you ask around you might be able to find a pro in the area who might donate some time to run a guest practice session or to give a pep talk.
9. Broadcast your accomplishments! Put up a public web page and talk about your wins! Nothing makes a team more proud than to let people know what you accomplished. It also lets players send that link to grandma. Sites like Qlubb have the ability to automatically generate a public site based on the content of the site, which minimizes the overhead.
10. Ask for feedback. Keep an open dialog with everyone and be flexible. It’s important to listen. Soccer teams live for months to years and needs change all the time. A good leader will be able to anticipate these needs by constantly listening and thinking ahead.
