Liverpool – Liverpool’s success to pick up Joe Cole were also on the role of two senior players, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Both promote the Reds to the Cole.

Liverpool get cole with a free transfer from the previous club, Chelsea. England midfielder had been bound with a four-year contract with a salary of 90 thousand pounds per week.

Prior to this, Cole could be issued will be joined by two other big clubs, Manchester United and Arsenal. But thanks to word of mouth promotion, a player 28 years is finally closer to Anfield.

“Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard did well to ‘sell’ it to Joe’s club in the World Cup,” said Hodgson told Radio quoted talkSport like Yahoo.

“Seduce a man who came from London takes a little science ‘sell’. The simplest solution for him to remain in around London,” added Hodgson a former manager of Fulham.

Hodgson seems to point to Arsenal, who also came from London. This means that Gerrard and Carrà factor means quite important in the arrival of Cole because there are no Arsenal players in England’s World Cup in 2010 then.

Can joe cole help liverpool to win premier league this year, what do you think?

Ah, the soccer dribble. The salt and pepper of the game, the move that makes fans go wild, club shirts sell and defenders cry. It’s no wonder that some of the players that are considered today’s best are great dribblers. Just look at the likes of Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Zlatan Ibrahimovici or Lionel Messi. They all built their careers and image as spectacular soccer players on a few dribbling moves. Today, we’ll cover some of the soccer dribbling moves that were branded by these players. Feel free to try and copy them

> Cruyff’s Soccer Dribbling Move

This move, branded by Holland’s superstar, Johan Cruyff is quite easy to reproduce but that doesn’t mean it’s less effective. Actually, it’s one of the most effective moves to perform at the edge of the box, or inside it faking a shot, or even on the wings, faking a cross. I’m sure that many of Cruyff’s former adversaries will acknowledge this move’s effectiveness. Here’s how you do it:

1. Push the ball slightly forward, as if you are preparing to take a kick

2. Plant your base foot (not the one you’re fake kicking with) just a tad ahead of the ball

3. When your fake kicking foot reaches the ball, instead of shooting, cut it under your body, behind your base leg

> Zizou’s 360 Soccer Dribbling Move

One of the soccer dribbling drills that’s probably easiest to get a hold on from a technical point of view. However, knowing how to perform a 360 is not the hard part, knowing WHEN to perform it is. Here’s how to get it done:

1. Push the ball slightly forward, giving your direct opponent the impression he can reach it
2. Extend your left foot and place your sole on top of the ball
3. Push onto the ball, hovering in mid air for a second
4. Place your left foot on the ground and pull the ball under you with the right foot

> Ronaldinho’s Elastico Soccer Dribbling Move

Ronaldinho has some of the best soccer dribbling skills in today’s game and this move that was branded by him only goes to show that. It’s a rather difficult soccer dribbling move to master, but if you can get it done right, it’s a killer. Defenders will rue the day they met an attacker that can pull off a quality Elastico, because it’s very hard to defend yourself from its quick change of direction. Here’s how it goes:

1. With the ball close to you, push it slightly forward and sideways with the outside of your foot
2. Quickly cut it in the opposite direction using the same foot, but with its inside

> Puskas’ V Soccer Dribbling Move

This soccer dribble is called the V-move because you “draw” a V on the ground using the ball. Puskas used it intensely while he was playing for Real Madrid, so this move is usually attributed to him, although a lot of players use it occasionally nowadays. The basic principles behind it:

1. When an opponent is close to you, quickly pull the ball back
2. Place your base foot ahead and sideways of the ball
3. Push the ball in a sideways direction opposite of your base foot, drawing a V with the help of the imaginary line you pulled the ball backwards on

> Ronaldo’s Stepover Soccer Dribbling Move

This one’s slightly funny, because it can be attested with equal rights to two players that are named Ronaldo: Ronaldo Nazario da Lima, the Brazilian striker and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese winger. Both players make intense use of this move, although it’s the Brazilian that was first renowned for it. The stepover is not easy to master, but a few days of soccer dribbling drills should get you going:

1. With the ball close to you, move your leg over the ball, simulating that you would move it sideways

2. Plant your hovering feet next to the ball

3. Now you can either perform a double stepover, using your other leg as explained above, or you could cut the ball with this leg and accelerate past your opponent.

Am thinking if it would be a good move for arsenal to try and sign the brazilian before Ac milan or try and buy Silva from valencia. Also if these signings are possible?

Let’s face it, even if you’re not much of a soccer player, knowing how to handle a few soccer tricks can mean a world of difference in your friends circle. Improving on your soccer tricks and skills isn’t just for impressing your friends and the ladies though. They can also get your match performance to a higher level, because they’re surprising and effective.

I can give you a lot of examples on that part: remember when Ronaldinho first started to perform his famous Elastico move? (flicking the ball with his outside of the foot to the left, then quickly cutting it with his inside) Nowadays, a defender that’s facing Ronaldinho in a one versus one duel will surely be careful against this move, but when the Brazilian had just invented it, it was extremely surprising and he managed to create havoc whenever his Elastico would work.

I’m not saying you’ll be able to perform as well as Ronaldinho after you learn soccer tricks like that, but it can definitely give you a surprising edge in a match situation.

Another great example of soccer tricks and skills that can make a difference is Zidane’s 360 spin. Although it’s a very effective and simple move, it wasn’t until Zizou popularized it that players all over the World actually used it in matches.

So, if you learn soccer tricks, you’ll be able to gain an edge on your opponent, but that probably wasn’t that hard to figure out anyway. The real question is HOW to do soccer tricks and how to learn them correctly. Here’s what I would suggest.

Try to have a step-by-step approach when you learn soccer tricks, categorizing them on difficulty levels. Start with the basic ones, move on to advanced moves and once you get both these categories well under your boot, try out those special few that are extremely hard to master.

Obviously, if you’re practicing these moves by yourself, or with the help of a friend, you’ll be able to perform them with no or little resistance, which is rarely the case in a real match (and if there’s no resistance, why would you perform them in a match anyway?). So besides practicing the actual move, you’ll also have to work on the timing of your soccer tricks and skills.

A couple of basic moves could include: the Zidane 360 spin, the stop and go, the Puskas V-move or the fake shot dribble.

Under the advanced category, you could try the Cruyff move, the stepover and double stepover or the Scotch.

Moves that are quite difficult to master and are better off left for last, include: Ronaldinho’s Elastico move, the “Brazilian” rainbow move or the Van Persie sweep.

Start off with the basic ones and practice them thoroughly, until you feel you’ve mastered these soccer tricks. Of course, when you move on to the advanced moves, these will take a lot longer to get a solid grip over, but you will have had already built some basic ball control skills from the basic dribble.

More difficult dribbles like the Elastico, or the rainbow kick will take a while to get a grip on, but don’t get discouraged if you keep failing on executing them! With enough practice, there’s no trick that you won’t be able to handle. The only thing that kills learning a specific trick is saying “I can’t do this” and cutting it off your list.

Everyone loves Football tricks!

Ronaldinho the soccer player likely has the best soccer tricks in the game now but it is worth checking out some other soccer players as their soccer moves are also excellent. Brazil soccer fans will claim to have the most famous player in the world, Ronaldinho and there’s no doubt he’s a hard man to beat.

The late George Best could do anything with a ball in his prime, indeed you would regularly think that the ball was tied to his foot with a piece of string! He had pace, talent and could play with both feet.

Pele

Brazil soccer fans have another hero in Pele ! The famous Pele scored over 1000 career goals and had a selection of soccer tricks to display. At the age of seventeen he scored a wonderful goal in the 1958 world cup final when he beat two defenders and chipped the ball over their head to volley home!

Johan Cruyff

What a player the Dutch had in the majestic Johan Cruyff! He could anything with the ball and in his prime was part of the Dutch total football team who reached two consecutive world cup finals in 1974 and 1978. Known for the soccer trick called the “Cruyff” turn where he dips his shoulder and fakes a cross while back heeling the ball past the defender!

Maradona

Another genius who captained Argentina to world cup glory.

The history of Maradona is certainly complicated but he is right up there with the very best, were you know he will be able to do keepie ups with a golfing ball ? How tricky would that be? Maradona could do any soccer trick!

Soccer moves are a joy to observe and all the players above played the game with a smile on their face and that’s what soccer fans will gladly pay cash to see!

Help answer the question about ronaldinho

Why do people compare Kaka to Ronaldinho?
it can’t be done. Ronaldinho is by far better. he is the best playercurrently playing and 2nd best of all time only to Pele.

Soccer Branding: The Story of European Soccer in Nigeria

By Eric Okeke

European soccer is making a very impact in Nigeria, captivating the minds and attention of soccer buffs, the young, and the young at heart, affecting the way Nigerians relax and unwind, and throwing up business opportunities for smart entrepreneurs.

And the story of this soccer brand is that of club support, fun, entertainment, gambling, and business in Nigeria, though the game is played thousands of kilometres away. For Nigerians, soccer is the game and entertainment; football clubs and players are the brands; while viewing the matches is the business.

The big brands of European soccer making waves in Nigeria are, The UEFA Championships, and English Premier League. Whenever teams in these competitions engage themselves in competitive soccer for a cup, Nigerian fans are held spellbound. It is as if the match is being played In Nigeria.

Some fans are strong in their support of the clubs they love. Come and see the campaigns in Nigeria for these clubs before any crucial match. Sometimes, it is fanatical. And in many cases, it results in brawls and big fights between supporters of different European clubs.

The support of clubs sometimes goes beyond the ordinary. At times, emotions run high. The big names are Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and others. For these football clubs, their images loom large in Nigeria, and they command large followership of fans that are even prepared to trade blows, fight, or engage in heated arguments in support of their clubs. The impact of European soccer in Nigeria is so intense that it is shaping the way soccer fans relax and unwind amidst fun, food and drinks.

Two European clubs that the largest crowd of supporters in Nigeria are Manchester United (Man U) and Chelsea. And the curious observer of the profile of these supporters will see clear distinctions or stratification in terms of social class, education, and income power. How?

Man U has captivated the fanatical support of the middle, professional and upper class, who have flat screen television sets at home, and subscribe to cable television. And after any win by this football club, you will hear shouts of, Man U for Life! by excited fans. This is followed by thronging of beer parlours and pepper soup joints in most cities in Nigeria to celebrate the wins. When they gather there and relish the win, you will hear agitated fans tell so many stories about the match; narrate all sorts of analysis and do rigorous discourse of the game that has just been played. After every big match, there is plenty of soccer storytelling in Nigeria.

Chelsea on the other hand is in total control of the masses, the lower class, the street boys, the motor park touts, jobless youths and street urchins poplularly known as area boys, in Lagos metropolis, Nigeria. They are more in number, are fanatical in their support for Chelsea, and are even prepared to die for the team.

Whenever Man U confronts Chelsea in a big match, there is tension in Lagos, even before the match day. The UEFA Cup Final for 2007 or 2008(I am not sure of the year now) between Man U and Chelsea was a storm in a tea cup in Lagos.

Seven days before the match, the tension was palpable in Lagos. Who will win the match? The big question triggered intense debates all over the city and sometimes resulted in pre-match fights between Man U and Chelsea supporters in Nigeria. Sports newspapers increased the tempo as they soaked supporters of both clubs with interviews, latest news and rave reviews of the clubs’ preparations, fitness of players, and the final match strategies.

Man U will win; we are Man U for Life! The club’s supporters will chant to the chagrin of Chelsea supporters who respond vociferously with Up Chelsea! Chelsea supporters in Lagos, outnumber the Man U for Life chanters. The Chelsea buffs are everywhere, more in the streets, marketplaces and motor parks. More than 80 per cent of commercial bus drivers in Lagos are die-hard Chelsea fans. And they are very loud. They can throw caution to the winds and fight anywhere with bottles, stones, any dangerous objects, especially if they are high on tobacco and reek of alcohol.

Not so with Man U supporters. They are more cultured, better educated and work in blue-collar and white collar jobs. They are more gentle and refined in their football behavior, though also fanatical in their support for Man U, hence the slogan, Man U for Life, a clear indication they are not ready to switch their European Club brand loyalty, whether Man is winning or not. And in many cases, Man U wins.

Back to that epic Man U/Chelsea Final. Twenty-four hours to the match, the whole city of Lagos was drowned with the fever of the match. There were unconfirmed reports of clashes between supporters of both clubs in different parts of Lagos. Bus drivers and conductors fought, radio stations rent the air with pre-match reviews and interactive programmes for listeners to air their views on the outcome of the match.

Man U vs Chelsea was so thick in the air that many residents waited impatiently for the match to come and go. Match day, fans thronged viewing centres and beer parlours to watch the game. If you want to enjoy the viewing of European soccer championships in Nigeria, do not watch it at home. Go to a viewing centre and sit with overzealous fans and listen to all sorts of stories and analysis as the match progresses. You can write a book full of such stories. Football storytelling is strong in Nigeria.

There is the story of a Manchester United fan, at home in Lagos, Nigeria, watching the epic final football match with Chelsea. Suddenly there was power outage. He did not have a standby electric generator to power his television set. Desperate not to miss any action in the match, he dashed into a hotel that has a viewing centre. Unfortunately, the place was thronged by Chelsea fans.

He burst into the centre shouting Man U for Life. The Chelsea supporters there promptly threw him out. Man U eventually won that match to the chagrin of Chelsea fans. Oh! Hell was almost let loose in Lagos metropolis. Man U fans celebrated, though in a subdued tempo because Chelsea supporters almost went on rampage. So many blames by the Chelsea fans. Oh! The referee was partial; there was not enough extra time; Didier Drogba did not play well enough; so many blames but the fact remained that Man U won on penalty kicks after both teams drew level at the end of extra time.

Come and see celebrations by Man U Fans. Three days later, they were still celebrating. Even married women joined in the fray. One madam, a Man U supporter threw open her restaurant and offered customers, ostensibly Man U fans, free drinks. The Man U fever is very strong in Nigeria. To say that Chelsea fans were… disappointed… that is being charitable; …bitter… yes, because that was the first time, I was told, their beloved club got very close to clinch the UEFA Cup. And they missed it.

Even the support for European clubs trickles down to families, sometimes breaching the peace at home, causing friction among children and creating challenges for parents in managing their childrens’ support for European soccer clubs

Take the story of my family of four sons (aged 17, 15, and 10) and a daughter who is just five, and does not know any club yet. Chidubem my first boy is a diehard supporter of Liverpool. Enter his room; you will see a life size poster-picture of the entire Liverpool team pasted on the wall. The second boy, Chibuzor, is a fanatical supporter of Barca. I had never heard that name before. When I asked him which club is that, he promptly told me, “Daddy, you are behind time,” chuckling. “Who is Barca,” I asked in amazement. “Barca means Barcelona,” he replied My boy taught me that. I thought I was current. Chika the youngest boy loves Chelsea.

Whenever their favourite teams wins or loses, come and see the commotion in my house. It could be jubilations, if it is a win, or taunts from other brothers if it is a loss. Should the match be between Liverpool, Barca, or Chelsea, there are fights in my house, so serious that that at times I have to threaten to discipline them if they continue to disturb the peace at home. The youngest boy Chika is always on the receiving end. Should Chelsea win Liverpool or Barca, the little boy is in trouble. The bigger brothers can even bully him if I or their mother is not around. On one occasion, they ran after him to beat him up, and he dashed off running to me for rescue. I did. If Chelsea loses, Oh! Come and see the taunts from the big brothers. In that situation, I usually placate Chika, assuring him that Chelsea will win another day. Such is the impact of European soccer on Nigerian families, sometimes polarizing family members.

It is not only European clubs that are celebrated in Nigeria. The players are revered too. Big names like Didier Drogba, David Beckam, Merci, Christian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and many others are revered. They are not only big soccer brands in Nigeria, they are idols. Nigerian youths see them as status symbols and role models. The average Nigerian teenager has large size pictures of European soccer superstars pasted in their rooms. Nigerian youths know the movement and transfer fees of European soccer stars much more than that of Nigerian soccer stars also playing in European clubs.

The story of European soccer brands is not only about play. It is also about business. People gamble before matches, some even going into bets. Viewing centres are springing up all over Lagos fitted with flat screen tv’s and connected to cable television channels. Match fixtures are displayed on blackboards planted on street sidewalks for the attention of passersby. These centres charge gate fees for soccer fans who want to watch matches.

Some hotels and hospitality outfits have joined the fray of showing such matches to attract more patronage. Many of them on match days bring out flat screen television sets out in the open for free viewing. But every patron watching the match is required to buy drinks.

But the viewing centres are running into trouble now with DSTV, the cable tv company in Africa that has the franchise to beam these football matches in the African continent. DSTV wants the viewing centres to pay fees or royalties to the company because they charge soccer fans money to match. The cable company’s position is that the channel is for home entertainment by subscribers, and if any patron charges money for viewing, the person or company has to pay something to DSTV .The viewing centres are crying foul, saying it will squeeze them out of business. A showdown is imminent.

Besides, there are many sports souvenirs… T Shirts…Pictures…Wall Papers…Give Aways and other consumer items sporting European soccer stars and their clubs are sold in Nigeria. It is big business. And there are many newspapers dedicated exclusively to football. They come in different shades of tabloids, are cheaper than mainstream newspapers, and are heavily patronized by soccer loving youths to keep track of the fortunes of their favourite players and clubs. However, club loyalty does not stop them from loving any player, and they sometimes wish the player they love sign -on for their favourite clubs. Merci, the youthful Barcelona player is loved by Nigerian youngsters. They like his diminutive size and deft moves in the field of play. Nigerian youths believe this gifted Argentine boy has football sense. Same for the Brazilian, Ronaldinho.

And so anytime you see European soccer on air, know that the fever is very strong in Nigeria.

The 28-year-old Brazilian footballer Ronaldo de Assis Moreira better known as Ronaldinho Gaucho has recently become part of the Italian Serie A leading team Inter Milan.

Ronaldinho’s professional career began to blossom at a very young age as by 18 he participated in his first senior international event in the Copa Libertadores and only one year later was an important part of the Brazilian national team. Short after he transferred to the French Paris Saint-Germain FC during the 2001-2002 season. His time with the French squad was very brief as he soon began to search for new options among which were Manchester United and FC Barcelona. This period is remembered in the football history as one when these two clubs basically declared war to each other in order to obtain Ronaldnho’s services.

By 2003 the Spaniard giant of FC Barcelona paid the sum of £21 million for the Brazilian magician whose skills were just unbelievable as his seniority continue to grow on the football field. Despite having the opportunity to sign for the English team of Manchester Ronaldinho opted otherwise as many of his countrymen including Romário, Ronaldo and Rivaldo had done previously. Without knowing what the future will hold for him the Brazilian began his successful career bringing to the club the Liga title in 2004 and the FIFA World Player of the Year award. In 2006 with Ronaldinho leading his team he managed to have Barcelona crowned as the Liga Champions and only two weeks later the club becomes the Champion League winners after beating Arsenal.

Unfortunately for the young player the 2007-08 season was a dark time for him as he was constantly injured and was not able to live to the standards the club and the fans wanted of him. Barcelona president Laporta began his pursuit to transfer the Brazilian player to either Manchester City or the Italian AC Milan as both teams had persistently assured their interest in acquiring the player.

Less than 24 hours ago the Associazione Calcio Milan or AC Milan paid the amount of £21 million for a three-year deal for the Brazilian player. Now that Ronladinho is part of the Italian leader of the Serie A tournament he will be able to participate in the coming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games an option which had previously been blocked by the FC Barcelona.

Now, it seems things are getting better for Ronaldinho as he feels more than at home in Italy especially after the incredible warm welcome he received at the San Siro Stadium where he stated “I am very happy, after so much time I am eventually here. I am overjoyed to have arrived at [AC] Milan and hope to be able to give everyone so much to cheer about.

If the predictions are not off track we are certain to expect a lot from this exceptional footballer as it seems he feels he now can show the football world he is still a great player and his struggle with the FC Barcelona group has finally come to end.

Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have had more than their fair share of top name managers over the years, but they took a chance this year and appointed former player Josep Guardiola as manager, in what was his first managerial appointment. Gauardiola repaid the faith shown in him by leading Barcelona to a treble, winning the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey. Barcelona are the first Spanish team to achieve this.

Guardiola was a fantastic player, spending most of his playing days at Barcelona and captained Johan Cryuff’s ‘dream team when Barcelona won their first European Cup. He has not recreated this success as manager and looks like having the potential to be one of the greats in the next generation of managers.

There is no doubt that Guardiola has a star studded team at his disposal but he made a bold move at the start of the season selling Ronaldinho and bringing in a few lesser known players to make his mark on the team. His achievements this year have been fantastic, especially since so many wanted him to fail as a result of his inexperience.

Even with the loss of Ronaldinho, Guardiola still has Messi, Eto’o, Henry, Xavi and Iniesta, to name but a few, at his disposal so he did inherit a string team but it is a team that hadn’t won La Liga since 2006 and one that many people had started to doubt could win the title.

Guardiola has certainly not put himself out there as a potentially future great manager and if he can continue to show the qualities and winning mentality that he has shown this season then there is no doubt that he will fulfil his potential.

Samuel Eto could be counting his last days as a player of FC Barcelona. After 5 season in Catalonia, the Cameroonian international is facing either an exit or reconciliation with Barca coach, Pep Guardiola.

Start of the row

Exactly a year ago, Barcelona appointed Guardiola as a new head coach and thats where the trouble started for the Cameroonian. The new manager made it publicly clear that he won`t be counting Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto. And while Barca officials were able to sell Deco and Ronaldinho, Eto couldn`t find a suitable club to join and ended up staying at FC Barcelona.

Successful season

Although Barca made a slow start to the season with an opening loss and a home draw, soon the team picked up their performance and found themselves top of the league and ended up staying there until the finish. The most memorable matches of 08-09 were El Clasico matches at Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu, Champions league matches vs. Chelsea, Copa Del Rey final vs. Athletic Bilbao and the Champions League Final in Rome against Manchester United.

Samuel Eto on his part contributed heavily to FC Barcelona`s success. The Cameroonian striker scored 30 goals in Spanish league, which was surpased only by Europen Golden Bott winner, Diego Forlan. The striker was also intrumental in Barca`s Champions League campaign with his opening goal in the Final vs. Manchester United.

Future

Despite his achievements Samuel Eto is “persona non grata” in Catalonia these days. One camp says he`s a selfish player and only thrives beacuse surrounded by world class midfielders, such as Xavi, Iniesta or Messi. Others claim that Eto is not being appreciated enough and that he`s been treated unfairly.

Whatever the truth is, these are the facts: So far Eto showed nothing but loyalty to his club and keeps insisting on his stay but the FC Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola is reluctant to retain the striker.

this is a fantastic clip of Ronnie !!
Help answer the question about ronaldinho
Does Ronaldinho need a drastic change to return in top form like before?
I think so because he has stayed in Barca for a really long time. I think he needs to go to another club in another league. 27 years is not old at all he is amazing im sure he can be the best again. You cant lose talent like what Ronaldinho has over night or ever.
